日本放宽对菲律宾等国签证
Japan has begun loosening its rules for applicants of multiple visas who are nationals of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam, its embassy in Manila said.
In a statement posted on its website, the Japanese Embassy in Manila said that starting Tuesday, "substantial relaxation of multiple visas will commence for these three countries," which is expected to simplify visa acquisition for them.
Aside from "substantial relaxation" on requirements, the period of validity of the visa will also be extended for up to five years, it said.
Applicants "residing outside of their countries of origin" may apply "at the diplomatic mission" at their place of residence, it added.
The embassy also said that by November, the country will also simplify application procedures for single tourism visas for participants of package tours offered by registered travel agencies.
In June, the Japanese Embassy in Manila announced that Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs approved "substantial relaxations of visa requirements" for tourism visas issued to nationals of the three countries.
The policy move is just an "initial step" of the ministry's "endeavor to realize the exemption of visa requirements," the embassy also said.
The Japanese Embassy in Manila said these measures were made to help Japan reach its goal of attracting 20 million foreign visitors, "as well as the promotion of people-to-people exchanges."
A separate report from The Yomiuri Shimbun in June said that the 20-million mark is expected to be reached by 2020, when the capital Tokyo will host the Olympics and Paralympics.
