MANILA – A member of the Manila Police District's (MPD) task force against illegal vendors in Divisoria was shot dead by a motorcycle-riding suspect on Ongpin Street in Manila on Tuesday.
SPO4 Antonio Castillo was assigned to guard the area after some Divisoria vendors' refusal to stop selling goods along the sidewalks turned into a clash with the cops.
In a CCTV footage near the crime scene, Castillo was seen sitting in front of a jewelry shop when a man wearing a helmet fired at him from behind.
Not satisfied, the suspect fired another shot at the cop before walking away, escaping onboard his motorcycle.
MPD Deputy Director Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz said they are now investigating if the crime is related to the earlier clash between illegal vendors and cops.
The authorities were able to recover the gun of the victim and two empty shells from the crime scene.
Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada has offered a P500,000 reward for any information about whereabouts of the suspect.--report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News |
